Introducing WorkWell: Connecting health and employment in Manchester

What is WorkWell?
WorkWell is a new programme in Manchester that connects work and health services. It is part of the Greater Manchester WorkWell Vanguard, one of 15 national pilot projects.
Who’s behind WorkWell?
Led by NHS Greater Manchester and funded by the UK Government, WorkWell aims to support 8,000 people across Greater Manchester by March 2026. In Manchester, the programme will help 1,620 residents with a budget of £1.3 million from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).
Who can join WorkWell?
WorkWell is for Manchester residents who:
- Are at risk of leaving their job due to health issues.
- Have recently stopped working because of physical or mental health conditions.
- The program also focuses on supporting racially minoritised communities, who often face challenges in accessing employment support.
What does WorkWell offer?
WorkWell provides light, low-intensity support to help participants:
- Overcome health-related barriers to employment.
- Stay in work.
How is WorkWell delivered?
Support is delivered by:
- The Growth Company (working within Manchester Foundation Trust)
- Big Life Group
- Alchemy Arts in collaboration with Pathways
- African Caribbean Mental Health Services in collaboration with Empower Consultants’
